I have just received a session request from a woman who's doctor suggested she get regular massages for her double-curve scoliosis. She says that it creates "occasional back problems" and "spasms in her right shoulder blade area that create some intense headaches".

I am going over my books to research this condition so I am best prepared to help her.

Does any one have any suggestions or thoughts on her condition and the massage session?

Thanks.

Hi Lisa, how you doing?

I would work pelvis towards head up the inside of the curvatures( to lengthen) and head to pelvis down the outside of the curvatures to shorten spinal muscles.

Triggerpoint work for right (or both) shoulders and neck. Pecs and diaphram.

Depending on her age I would be carefull re pressure in case curvatures indicate possible osteoperosis. This is because some doctor's think "massage" in terms of fluff and buff light massage, rather than deeper remedial.

Hope this helps
