The most effective forms of marketing I have used are newsletters, facebook page and donating gift certificates to local events. Picking a local charity to participate in is also a great way to get out into the community and help contribute to a great cause. I organize Massage for the Cure within the Relay for Life. I don't do a great deal of promoting beyond just being there but it's a great way to meet people and form connections within the community.
