I have a great client base built up a lot of repeat clients and a bunch of new ones from word of mouth. My chiropractor came to me and asked if i wanted to join him in his new location. We are in the process of negotiating. Any suggestions or red flag warnings?

I have know him for 8 years and we refer clients back and forth. I am a little burned out on all the paperwork i do since most of my clients see me under their health insurance. Dealing with the insurance companies, paperwork and phone calls, keeping track of payment from both the insurance and clients. I am overwhelmed!! The chiropractor said he could do all the billing and his office manager would make all the appointments for me.

I'm not sure what to do!! Joining up with my chiropractor would take a lot of work off my shoulders. Suggestions welcome:)

my first thoughts are to make sure that you are clear in the arrangement from the beginning. Do you work for him? get paid even if there are no clients? Or are you independent and working in conjunction WITH him, which means you work on his clients as well as your own. Are you required to stay on site if you have no clients? Who takes care of cleaning rooms and sheets.

My suggestion would be to make a list of questions that you both can sit down with and really come to an agreement. Too many times a chiro wants to hire you as an independent but once in suddenly you find yourself treated more like an employee.

Also, before you sit down with your list be sure to figure out what YOU want in answer to your questions and what you are will to compromise for the partnership.

good luck!!
