I am a dog groomer  (and LMT)  wearing golashas to keep my feet dry (no insoles at the moment because none of the OTC ones seem to help and I can't afford a podiatrist just yet).  I am on my feet at least 9-10 hrs daily and I constantly go home with aching feet.  Thank God for my fiance who rubs them at night for me!

I am going to invest in some good shoes, but I need some recommendations.  I have heard of Merrill Shoes and Easy Spirit Pro Series.  Any others that you may have personal experience with???

PS Not my feet in the pic....lol

Merrill is a good brand. I tried 2 pairs of sandles last summer and they are wonderful. New Balance is the brand I use for work, and every day in tennis shoes, as they have the best support. I just bought 3 pairs as they were on sale. I buy the most expensive ones as they have the best support. One pair is just for work, One pair just for fun. Pink Breast Cancer ones for fun. They have wonderful support. One pair for every day tennis shoes. My work shoes I only wear for work nothing else. I only buy them when they are on sale as they can cost up to $140.

Buy you some Tei-Fu Massage lotion and rub on your feet. There is nothing like it. it is the best pain reliever ever.

I LOVE my Dansko clogs Andrea; and they've lasted for 10 years! I actually bought them at Jeri's Uniforms, here in Tucson, so you could go in and try them on. They have excellant arch support and can get wet, although you might want the shoes with backs so they don't fall off. Got mine in black and they dress up or down.

Footsmart.com is another fantastic shoe source; really great products and they're wonderful about returns. I have purchased Romika and Softspots for more dressy occasions, Euripedica (slipper/clogs) and Crocs for working. Crocs came out with a more feminine sandle last year that is fabulous. I'm a cheap skate and wait for free-shipping to order on-line, but it's worth it to pay more for really quality shoes.

Can't beat those nightly foot massages, however; might include that in a pre-nupt.

Hi! I came across this discussion (albeit a bit late) and wanted to let you know we are publishing an article on footwear/apparel for MTs in the upcoming July/August issue of Massage & Bodywork magazine. Be sure to check out the Ten for Today section on some hopefully helpful tips and recommendations.

Kind regards,

Jodi

Keens. My feet and knees were starting to bother me from doing massages all day so I finally invested in a good pair of shoes. My Keens are like walking on a cloud. I buy the hiking shoe that can be worn with or without socks because the way they are designed allows my feet to breathe but still be supported. They are a cross between a sandal and a tennis shoe..not a boot at all. They run about $100 a pair but worth every penny...and I am not one to spend a lot on shoes so that's saying a lot. Good luck!

Andrea - one more thing - at the end of your day rest your legs on a wall and invert your feet. Sit as close to the wall as you possibly can and then swing your legs up. You should be lying flat with your bum pressed up against the wall and your legs totally supported by the wall. This will feel like heaven to your tired feet. Let me know if you have any questions about this...it is really simple and I highly recommend you try it :)

Namaste

What is the floor surface? Do you stand directly on cement flooring? Ergonomic floor mats for the workplace would make a big difference. the whole area can be matted. If you have a foot problem from this work you can see a doctor since that is worker's compensation insurance. Check out these. They work great in production facilities that have wet slippery floors and workers stand an 8 hour shift. http://www.safety-exercise-yoga-mats.com/images/best-mats_58_kitche...

While well supportive shoes can be a good short term solution (I wear New Balance), consider that the arch of the human foot did not develop in connection with modern footwear, and that greater support may rob your feet of the natural exercise your arches require to maintain healthy, pain free form.

Consider shoe support as a good short term solution while seeking out structurally integrative massage work for the joints/muscles of your feet and attempting to spend less hours in any shoe and more hours barefoot on uneven surfaces, as movement and exercise are the stimulus needed to produce a well performing arch.

Sorry for the late reply, I just found this thread. I have Merrill shoes and they are ok, it could just be the style I have. Ive always been used to working in sneakers (new balance are my favorite) and when I landed my spa job I had to alter my shoe selection to fit the uniform. However I know a few people that have Merrills and love them. If you are unsure, you can try onlineshoes.com because they not only have a HUGE selection, they also have free shipping and free return shipping, which is a bonus if the shoes are not comfy enough.
