massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

Hey all! There is a group of us on here that are uniting on Facebook as well. Please let us know where to find you on Facebook if you would like to participate! If you have a "personal" Facebook account, please "fan" those of us who are listing our Business accounts. Those of you who have "Business" accounts, please list each others business accounts on your "favorite" pages list. This is just to help each other out. I know, personally, that I have a lot of people who vacation all over the place and if they are going to your area, they have something that they can "identify" with. Our clients are much more likely to schedule an appointment with someone on vacation if they have a good referral! So, please get in on the fun and start networking!

I can understand this, though. As long as we friend someone, we can watch what they post without ever interacting.

Julie, I don't understand why facebook is considered voyeuristic? The people I stay in contact with are friends, some of who I had lost touch with, and family, most who live out of state. Maybe years ago, I would've written letters and enclosed pictures, but I like this sort of communication. I still call on the phone, and, if I'm in town, visit in person. I'm not trying to get a million fb friends, so maybe that's the difference.
And this is where it is good to have a business page. All those voyeurisitc friends lurking the pages may decide that they
need a massage and not necessarily need to talk to you! :) Lurk on all you voyeurs!

Julie,

side track...in all your responses you always list the same 2 web sites after your name, but neither are actually your massage business. I'm curious as to the thought process behind that.

I was playing with having two facebook accounts for awhile to keep business separate from personal but it was making me crazy. I am not sure why people love facebook so much but to me it is so voyeuristic but it seems to be working for getting clients and networking.

I have business/group Facebook page. My goal is to post one question a week for massage professionals to discuss.

The website is:
Advanced Massage Techniques

Ivy Hultquist
Advanced Massage Techniques
I just use those sites in my signature so people will take a look at my sites if they are interested. My clinic site is www.massageseattle.net

There are much better ways to get clients than lurking or waiting for lurking people. I use my clinic website to get people who are already looking for massage. It comes up for my main keywords in the first pages or first position. I only want people as clients who are serious about their health and already understand the value of massage for the most part.

Yes it is really good for finding old friends and family etc but if you stay on facebook all day like I did for a few days while I was working on my websites - people post the weirdest things and will post crazy stuff on your wall if you don't control it and your clients will see it if you are friends. I created a fan page and connected to my website and don't let many clients actually become 'friends' except for a few and then I am inviting them to my fan page and then deleting them as friends...

So if you watch what people are doing with facebook they tell you what they had for breakfast and then will say sad quotes or things that don't make any sense except to someone they are mad at or something and then it goes on and on. When you login an go to your news feed section you get a list of all these things and frankly who really cares. I talk to my real friends in person.

anyways I just think there are better ways to spend your time like building a website for your massage business that will let people who are searching for massage in your city find you and call you. I am using it to promote my massage professional websites and it is working well for that. Clients is another story in my opinion.. I am still not convinced although I am trying it out.

i have a facebook, but mostly for the apps i play with friends . never thought of using it to advertise , mostly for some obvious reasons . with the good , you often get the bad . and with the experiences more to the bad , kinda reluctant to put my business on there. but it is a good idea .
Mine is under Allison Alli Stocks. I would love to have more therapists in my network. Mine is personal as well my advertising for massage and my dance studio. Thank you, I found this site tonight and think it is wonderful.
Get Kris Kelley's book on FB and massage. You have complete control over who sees what on your pages. It is not brain surgery people. I am finding that there is nothing wrong with clients finding a few personal things about my life.....I connect with them better, but I am careful with what I post and who sees what. If you ignore a friend request and just state that it is your business policy to not accept friends on FB.....that works for me without any personal affronts. We go on and on about how we are "in touch" with our clients and we have these very intimate trusting relationships, but we're scared to let our clients knowing ANYTHING about us. If it bothers you that much, don't go on FB. Seems simple enough. I'm having a blast with it however.
My business page is found under Vibrant Spirit Massage Studio
