Julie the online journal is not private but it is rather personal. I would have to change names and fictionlize the events, etc, for obvious reasons. It would make a better book than blog.

Pat (or anyone else),

I just write on my websites and blog and make a partial living from doing that. I can help you do the same so contact me if you want to do more.

What is the address of your online journal - or is it a private thing?

I began self-published (spent a LOT of money on art work and layout design). Then the publisher came to me.

You do not need an agent, you just contact the "acquisitions editor" for the publisher and see if they are interested.

Thanks for all the advice. I have been keeping an online journal for about nine years so I do write a lot, almost every day. The problem is having the time to sit down and edit, 9 years of material is a lot to condense into a book. I am also considering self publishing since I really do not have the time or the money to get an agent and try to get something published. Has anyone here ever self published and if so how did it turn out?

Hi again everybody...

I just read through the posts and see that most everyone is listing their writing credentials... so...

With Mosby of Elsevier Science, I have three textbooks, three sets of Flashcards, a Coloring Book, and a Flipchart. I also have a column article with the mtj entitled "body mechanics." And, I am writing a set of five books on advanced treatment techniques for the manual therapist with Lippincott.
Please visit my website (www.learnmuscles.com) for a lot more info on all this, including pdfs of the articles.

Hello Pat,

If you did want to write a book, then usually a publisher wants the outline and one chapter completely written to consider it, with a form filled out that they would give you that essentially addresses why your book should be published (e.g., who is the market? How is your book different from the others already out there? etc.)
Beyond that, the mechanics of writing are pretty simply. Choose a set time every day and dedicate yourself to writing 300-500 words every day. Don't worry if it is good or bad. Tomorrow you might tear them up and rewrite them. Just do that every day. In a year, you will have a book. This may sound overly simplistic, but it is essentially how it works. This of course assumes that you have the knowledge content for whatever you are writing. If not, then you would have to add the time to do the research.
Good luck! :)

Pat, most people I have talked with that are successful, just write. The book format usually comes later. A lot of times books are formations of short articles that blend to form great works. I like it simple, just write everything down that has to do with your subject and go with it. I am sure others are more structured. You can find tons of information about authoring online as well.
