Also, January, 2011, I founded SWEET SERENITY MASSAGE FOR CHARITY CHANGING THE WORLD THROUGH CARING FOR KIDS. Sweet Serenity does massage for $1 a minute and 100% of all the monies goes to the Charities. So far in the last 3 years Sweet Serenity has done Charity Events for: Council on Aging raising money for the United Way, Breast Cancer Research, Bark for Life for the American Cancer Society, Organ Donation. Our Big Event each year is at the World Massage Festival www.worldmassagefestival.com where we raise funds for the Shriners Hospital Children's Burn Unit in Greenville, SC. We pay all out own expenses as we do not have any corporate sponsoring, and give back 100% keeping nothing for ourselves. Last year 2011, the World Massage Festival was in North Carolina, this year, Las Vegas, Nevada, and next year Long Beach, California. If you are attending this event will you please help us raise funds for the children? Sweet Serenity is Massage Therapists giving back because of a profession that they love. It is such a wonderful feeling giving back. We do these charity events year round as we are asked.
very inspiring!
This is what goes on in Pensacola, FL the last Friday in October for the last 3 years,
Thank you for sharing, Darcy. It is wonderful that you work with peers from all associations to give back to the veterans and their families. It is even more wonderful that you donate massage monthly and not just once a year. Thank you for sharing your story with us all.
Hi Kerstin, Great! We are happy that you plan to participate this year! It sounds like you have a great plan in place. That is great that you plan to get your students involved. Are you planning to borrow a vinyl banner from ABMP to use on site at the food pantry? Here are some ways to reach out to the local media to gain awareness for your event. Good Luck!
Hi Hannah, Welcome to the group! Your idea sounds great! It sounds like you will be making a big impact on your community by not only donating money, food, and toys, but also massage work to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it. Let us know how the event turns out, as always we welcome you to send pictures of your event to differentstrokes@abmp.com for inclusion in the Different Strokes member newsletter. Have you started making marketing materials yet, or are you going to borrow a vinyl banner for your event? Good Luck with your event!
Comment by Kerstin Kirchner on May 22, 2012 at 4:13am Hi Hannah
Yes, I am planning to participate this year which will be my first time. I am planning to offer free chair massages at a local food pantry and offer massages for a low price for table massage. I am instructor and plan to take my students to a local food pantry too. These food pantries are in different towns.
Comment by Hannah Flynn on May 21, 2012 at 4:54pm Hi! This is my first year participating in EveryBody deserves a massage week and I would love everyone's input on my ideas. I am thinking of doing a food/toy drive for my local animal shelter. I will offer $1 off of a massage for each toy/can off food donated and $5 for each bag of food. I will also offer a free 30 minute massage for each shelter volunteer with the option to upgrade to an hour for a low price. Also, I will donate $1 from each client who donates an item (I hope it's ok to borrow your idea Lucretia :) )
Welcome to the group, Kerstin and Darcy! Are either of you planning to participate in EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week this year?
