Massage Insurance Billing

I have been billing insurance since the beginning of my career which started in 1989. I am not an expert but do know a fair amount about it. The thing is that there are so many differences in each state and in each city and even each insurance plan it can be overwhelming. I have used insurance billing through my career to keep it stable. Yes there are difficulties in getting paid but I found that the more I knew the better I was able to weed out problem cases and set boundaries around working with people and their insurance companies. I am starting this group to allow people to share their insurance billing tips, classes and information.

Please start a discussion topic and use your state/city in the heading and share information on what massage insurance billing you are able to do in your area.  Thanks Julie

She will be at the 2010 World Massage Festival in Berea, KY at Berea College, June 17-21, 2010. The Festival is the cheapest CEU's in the world.

Vivian helps everyone nationwide.

Yes Vivian is one resource and a very good one but her programs are expensive and some of this is just common knowledge that can and should be passed on through mentoring. I hope to be able to connect people up with people in each state that knows what is going on in that area and be able to mentor others on that topic. I just thought I would see what happens because billing insurance is such a hot topic and very information rich. Someone could have a nice website on it all and do very well on the topic.

Dear Julie - Thank you very much for creating this helpful group. I appreciate being connected. I forwarded the information to a colleague who has just begun accepting clients who want to utilize their insurance for massage therapy payments. I feel sure the information presented in this forum will be very helpful and enlightening. Warmly, Ariana

I took a very good thorough CEU class with Vivian Madison Manoey at the World Massage Festival back in 2008. She knows it all. She has a page here. Just email her and ask. She will give you whatever info you need. She is very educated in Insurance billing and has been doing it for 30 years or more. Now she teaches it.

I don't know a lot on this subject. I have always passed questions onto Vivian Madison-Mahoney or Laura Allen. But I will try to help promote more knowledge as I can.

I don't think you can bill for medicare. You have to figure out what codes best apply to the type of massage you are doing and get the diagnosis code from the doctor. Calling the insurance company is best but you have to know what to ask.
I think I have a list somewheres but have to check.
