Learning compassion for all people has been the most powerful lesson and now I feel like that is the main reason I got into this work; although I didn't consciously become a massage therapist for that specific reason

I was going thru a mid-life crisis. Feed-up with one boring, go nowhere, clerical job after another. I had never finished college and always felt unhappy with myself about that. I finally sat down one day and asked myself what I really wanted to do.…

I think it should also be 40 hours of classroom time. Did they say anything in the class listing? Did you not know before you took the class? I am not sure if the NCBTMB or various states would allow homework to be counted as part of their ce requi…

I would say first clear up your own judgments and beliefs about being male in this profession. It is like saying I am not getting clients because it is too cold today. If you think you won't get clients because you are male - then you won't. There…

You have to really find what works for you. No one can really tell you that. What kind of massage do you like doing? What kind of people would you like to work with? How much do you want to be making? Sometimes it is a matter of just trying differe…

I don't have a clue how to read or interpret research and I have even been reading articles to learn more but they are hard to stay interested in. I think I am also jaded because I have a friend who is in research for a major university (not in mas…

I am not sure what is going on out there in the massage world but I am getting more and more questions from people through my website about what it takes to become a massage therapist and if you have to take math classes!  These are people in high s…

I just read the article today and I have been thinking about it all day. What bothered me the most was them saying to independent practitioners that you better watch out and also the news that ME has an agreement with Corinthian to get grads to fill…

Websites are now really the foundation of a successful massage business. It is important to understand the process so that you can do it yourself or hire someone to do it right for you. A website should be all about getting results!

Where is the info that non-competes are illegal? I think they are legal. They are just hard to enforce. A friend of mine was caught in one and she of course left and clients left too. How can you control where clients go or not go? You can't. I thin…

I have a page on my website about it with some links to articles on it. In general it is hard, long hours but if you learn how to set boundaries I bet it could be really fun! http://www.massage-career-guides.com/cruise-ship-jobs.html Julie

There are so many different opinions on what is best - you have to figure out what works best for you. You can learn deep tissue techniques that allow your body to work better and apply more pressure without using your strength. Most of my training…

I think the perception of men in the massage profession is very telling of what we actually do need to heal. Men don't want to be massaged by men, women don't want to be massaged by men and male to male massage (gay sensual massage or whatever) is t…

Becoming Friends with clients...

I have been having some really great discussions on here and on Facebook and my websites about the therapeutic relationship and what happens when you become friends with clients or engage in other dual relationships with them -nothing illegal like dating clients or sex of course but trading services like accounting or tax help and seeing clients socially.

I never was taught anything about this and in fact when I started out 22 years ago, massage was more of a lifestyle choice than anything and… Continue

CE -Because you want to take them or because you have to take them?

I have been doing some research on CE and am looking for info on why you take CE classes. I have a quick survey on my website that would help in giving me some info for my next online project - a CE Resource Center.

CE is needed in almost every state I think. The thing is that many take ce classes only because they have to and not because they want to improve their business. People find themselves taking c… Continue

Things I wished massage therapists knew about massage jobs...

After reading the results of a small survey that was done by one of the members here, I have to say I am still puzzled about the massage profession and what they are thinking..

A few of the points mentioned in that post say that:

- massage therapist feel that they are owed by their professional associations to do things like get them… Continue

Massage Union??

You can't have a discussion group with massage therapist without having the topic of forming a union comes up. There are many sides to this -one that probably will be never fully answered.

I for one always just think it seems like the unions are the ones who have ruined the auto industry with their demands. What would a union do for the massage profession? What really is the problem in the massage job world? I've lived a sheltered life never having to get a massage job and always having my own… Continue

Easy Website Search Engine Optimization

Website Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is what helps get your website to the top of the search engines. While there are many parts to getting your website found by the search engines one of the easiest things to start with is the keywords you use in your domain, webpages and metatags of your website.

Think about what people would be looking for if they were looking for you - deep tissue massage austin, massage therapist, denver or whatever type of massage you do and where you do it is really… Continue
