CHANGING THE STORY

Over the past few years I have been living a story. It’s one that I tell myself daily. It is a simple story, filled with the excuses of why “I can’t.” In this story I continually place my family and work responsibilities at the top of the priority list while my health, fitness and emotional well-being fall to the bottom. I know this story very well because it is not just my own, I hear it each day from most of my clients as well. It is the story of “I don’t have time.”

I’m a massage…

Bowing out and saying goodbye

If you've been reading the back page column at Massage & Bodywork for the last three years, that's been me writing that stuff. My Practitioner Parables column has been fun to write and I've been very pleased with the feedback we've received from readers.

If you read as far as the author tag on the bottom of the page, you'll know I'm going on a sabbatical of sorts. Officially, at the end of this month (just over a week now!) I'll be designated in the non-active member category by…

An Option for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) affects over 75 million people worldwide.  Unfortunately, it's rarely treated in a timely fashion.  Many people will ignore the pain and discomfort until they can no longer use their arms and hands, at which point they will see their doctor and head down surgery lane.  But what you may not know is that if caught early enough, there are simple, non-invasive treatments such as massage therapy, stretching, and posture correction that can reverse the affects of…

It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.

Dr. Mikao Usui is the founder of the Reiki…

Not Just Any Movement, You Need Functional Movement

The Human Body is a mechanical work of art.  By design it is capable of a ridiculous amount of movement patterns, all at different degrees of intensity, from slow and steady to explosive and short. The ability to crawl, walk, run, jump, and climb each require an amazingly sophisticated movement system.  This system sets us apart from all other species on the planet. But there is one catch… If you don’t use it you literally lose it.

Why you lose it

One of…

Where I Come From

Where I Come From

October 2nd, 2011

I was at the annual reunion of my mother’s family today. Any Sunday afternoon in the South, when you drive by a church fellowship hall or community clubhouse and you see cars in the parking lot, you can almost take it to the bank that a family reunion is going on. Just stop on in. The chances are really…
