I think this is a cool picture of Ashi-Thai. It's one of the very few strokes in this modality that is actually skin on skin. Perfect for stretching out the client's gastrocnemius!

How does this therapist based movement isolate and stretch the gastrocnemius, which lobe does it stretch Lateral or medial? Is this a passive stretch or is client active in the movement?

Ashi-Thai is similar to traditional Thai massage in that the client remains fully clothed, and the massage therapist uses no cream or oil. Moving the client into various positions using primarily therapist's legs and feet is easier for many therapists than using sheer strength, arm and digital pressure. The client remains on the massage table. When face down, she or he doesn't have to turn the neck if so desired as it's in the face cradle. The therapist uses 2 parallel bars mounted overhead for balance.

It was developed by Ruthie Hardee (founder of Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy), in collaboration with Kina Ueda.

That is a cool photo! So tell us about Ashi- Thai. I would love to exhibit it at this year's Festival!
