I've been thinking about ways to get my name out and I saw somewhere mentioning spa or massage parties. I was curious if anyone has used this idea to help promote their massage business. What was the feedback? Did your massage practice grow as a result? How did you promote it?

yes I did for my mobile spa it was great but to have a real great party you may need to have nail tech, make -up artist 

I made $10,00 and will be doing it for feb 14 for couples only at $100 person plus food ,drinks,and five spa services 

I did. It is beneficial to incorporate another person. My mom is an aesthetician, so that helped out a bit for me. We do a party a month. People absolutely love it! Guys too by the way. We actually host it at a person's home and they get one of our services for free, or some kind of incentive. We bring everything we need, payments are always cash only, and we only see people who are referrals. Since it is referral based only, we don't promote it too much, just tell people to refer, rather we ask them to, and in return they get a discounted service. We keep busy from it. We don't get too much repeat for individuals, but a lot of them will call more than twice a year for parties themselves, and it just grows the list.

I've done a few spa parties and they will quite successful. The feedback I got was wonderful and I've have a few repeats but even as one-offs, they are a great way to promote your business and get access to people who might not normally find you any other way.

I do a multi-modality work, which after the 4th or 5th hour can be wipe me out for the next day so scheduling your time accordingly. Tailoring your style to the clients ahead of time is a nice effort - some people would rather have a clothed Thai massage or strictly energy work. 
Medical History forms should be filled out a week before so you know what to expect. 

Working with complimentory professionals is a great way to add value and obviously finding a good caterer will only make things that much better.

My experience has been professional groups and schools have large enough pools of people to start with. 

If you already have client base then that is another great resource.

Like Michelle had said, I offer free or heavily discounted bodywork to the person hosting, depending on the number of people. That alone can lead to more parties. 

Stressing a very casual, light, fun atmosphere is a good way to approach it as a point of describing it. Also music is something to consider before hand - client might like something other than the normal spa fare so be prepared with alternative choices.

And depending on your specialized modality, you may want to let people know ahead of time: they could be pretty zonked out and carpooling is a great idea :)

I have done a couple of massage parties. They are great for a quick bit of cash. However, for me I found that they can also be a LOT of hard work since you are doing several sessions back to back. For those therapists that do that in their own practice, it probably wouldn't phase them. However, if you are a therapist just getting out there that isn't used to doing several sessions back to back, you might want to limit the number of people in the party until you can build up your strength.

That was a good reply by Lisa. Doing several sessions in a row is tough, especially in the beginning of ones career. I am quite used to it myself, and actually prefer it. So, parties are cool for a limited number of people. I forgot to mention that my parties are limited to five people.We structure it so there is small breaks between people seeing my mom and me. I say do it, because there are things out there you need to do before you know if you like it. Just look at Lisa and I, she doesn't like it, I do. You may or may not, but go out there prepared!

I have done chair massage parties, I found it to be very helpful for my business.  I grant the host 20 minutes free when they book a minimum 1 hour party.  No individual gets more than 20 minutes at a time, this allows me to stretch and recenter myself before the next client gets on the chair.  I have gotten school swim teams booking for meets from these parties.  I also used chair massages with connecting with other vendors such as tupperware, tastefully simple, pampered chef, pocket book all these vendors are great to connect with cause when they get a party to boost also their sales they want a massage therapist there for chair massages.  I don't do table massage parties that would be just too much on me and you wouldn't be able to have that many people at the party.  Chair massage you reach at least 4 people an hour that's if everyone does 20 minutes.  That's 4 people that know what you do in just 1 hour. That is how I've looked at it. But this has definitely helped my business tremendously!
