I am about to start teaching massage course with the help of elearning. I have developed a website that allows to have the facilities of videos, images, blogs/web pages and much more so students can use them in class and at home. Does anyone have any experience with it?

My idea behind it is to make students as active as possible in class. For example, instead of 'teaching' them, I would like to give them some guided questions and let them use the school's website to find out how things work. Later, they will have to present their work into class.

I hope this way students will be more active, grasp the ideas of anatomy much quicker. It will also free the teachers/tutors to go around the class and help those who need it.

Happy to hear your comments.

There is content in a massage curriculium that truely lends itself to online learning. Much of the work is already done for your as well.  I can only speak for Elsivier/ Mosby but textbooks Mosby's Essential Sciences for Therapeutic Massage and Mosby's Pathology for Massage both have comprehensive accompaning online courses.  Other textbooks in their massage line have what is called the evolve site which a classroom platform ie like blackboard with additional activities for the books but also discussion boards, chat rooms grade books and much more.

Hi Dror,

Great idea. A large number of todays students really appreciate and respond well to this type of learning. Most publishers, like ours, have websites that contain additional resources and interative tools for students. Please check with the publishers of the books you will require as I am sure there will be many tools available to your students. We also have tools for instructors, such as PowerPoint presentations and test banks that can easliy transfer over to this type of e-learning.

Hi Sandy,

You are right- massage and anatomy, physiology and pathology really recall for a non-text only learning, where video, podcasts, blog for self reflection and peer learning enhances quality. I use a video camera in class and send a DVD to each student from EACH class.

Many thanks for your ideas. I will certainly have a look at those books and see if i can build on their expertise. Somehow, what I am looking is a way students can learn in small groups in class, have a discussion, look at images, videos, podcasts. Then, they will have to draw diagrams and present their work for all class. For one, they will not only learn the material but learn how to communicate it to others (in the future to clients).

Many thanks again and I will look at these books. I will be happy to hear any other ideas.
