Well, since we are all advertising our wares, I have a class forming in Hillsborough December 3-6. It is the foundation course for the Biodynamic approach to craniosacral therapy. I had practiced the Bio-mechanical model that Dr. Upledger teaches for 8 years before going over to the UK and studying the Bio-dynamic model with Franklyn Sills for two years. Go to www.lyonsinstitute.net for more information and student testimonials. thanks

I agree with you Nancy that 24 hours can be an awesome and inspiring amount of time to move a student in a direction. That really is the entire concept of an introductory view of a discipline Here is a way of being as a bodyworker. Does it resonate with you? then hopefully the journey begins. when I consider that I have only been doing my work two decades and some of those who I have learned from practiced over five decades, I am humbled. But, the beauty of wearing the Healer's robes is that I have seen students in only 24 hours of training hold the space for miraculous healings! then they call an email me or call me with such excitement in their voices that they can hardly contain themselves. I have had students who had been in practice for over 15 years call me or tell the other students in class that it took 3 seminars and almost a year to "get" the teachings and really begin to "grok" the work!

I, too, appreciate your comments, Judah. A good therapist is made by a combinatin of experience and education.

You might be surprised what some therapists are able to do with 24 hours of education! Inspired and intrigued, they go back to their practices and apply what they have learned, and their clients truly do benefit.

I think what we run into is the problem of so much diversity in our profession. And the fact that being a massage therapist is not necessarilly the ground level for learning such things as CS and Trager. To me, that's where the term bodywork really has meaning- in those disciplines (more than a "modality") that require a whole lot more training than 24 hours to be effective or maybe even safe.

There is an issue of mediocrity that is perpetuated by various entities that purport to have our well-being in their mission statements. Although that may be true, too many in our profession go to one short seminar and then advertise on their walls and business cards their newly acquired acumen. Can you imagine having your horses shod by someone with 24 hours of instruction? Or having your teeth cleaned by a dental hygienist for that matter. We are forced to give students pieces of paper that say the have competed so many hours of instruction, which are then promptly framed and displayed to an uneducated public. Oh well, it is the 6th night of the Mayan calendar!

Judah Lyons - well said! I have to say your opinion really resonates with me. If we surround ourselves with like-minded therapists, and help each other grow, we benefit the entire community of therapists. And of course, our clients benefit, which is the most important thing.
