massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

Hello I have been reading these forums for a while and i really feel like i would enjoy a career as a massage therapist. I did have a few questions though for schooling i was wondering if i could get a few general ideas for how long it takes to complete to be licensed and able to give massages. I was also wondering what type of massages are most common or if there are courses where i can learn specialty massages?'

I live in the Orlando area and if anyone knew of a good school around there i would appreciate it, I would also appreciate any insights into good habits throughout school to help after school. Another thing is how hard is it to start making clients. I planned on working on the side until i got a decent amount of regular clients or i got a position at a spa or fitness club. The last thing is that i am male and have read of many places not hiring males so would it jut be better to find my own clients through advertising and word of mouth?

Aloha Daniel,

Here's a helpful resource for you: http://www.male-massage-therapist.com/Sean-Slovik.html,  Sean is massage therapist in Melbourne, FL who has created this website expecially for male massage therapists to share some of their stories.  Enjoy!

Aloha,

Barbara Helynn

You might contact Dennis Stovall in Miami. He teaches Lomi Lomi & Thai. He should be able to give you the information you are looking for. You can also check out the state of Florida regulations.
