Hi Hannah

Yes, I am planning to participate this year which will be my first time. I am planning to offer free chair massages at a local food pantry and offer massages for a low price for table massage. I am instructor and plan to take my students to a local food pantry too. These food pantries are in different towns.

Hi! This is my first year participating in EveryBody deserves a massage week and I would love everyone's input on my ideas. I am thinking of doing a food/toy drive for my local animal shelter.  I will offer $1 off of a massage for each toy/can off food donated and $5 for each bag of food.  I will also offer a free 30 minute massage for each shelter volunteer with the option to upgrade to an hour for a low price. Also, I will donate $1 from each client who donates an item (I hope it's ok to borrow your idea Lucretia :) )

Welcome to the group, Kerstin and Darcy! Are either of you planning to participate in EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week this year?

Hi Derek, welcome to the group! Have you participated in EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week in the past?

WOW! Very impressive Lucretia.

Is the local news interviewing you as a result of signing up for their Daily Deal (meaning, is that a part of the deal) or did they approach you after hearing about your event?

Comment by Hannah Levy on May 15, 2012 at 3:10pm

Thanks for your response, Lucretia. You have a great plan and we are excited to hear all about how it turns out! Have you already requested a large vinyl banner from us? You can rent a 6 foot by 3 foot banner from us with a $50 deposit (refundable upon return) in order to enhance your event! It sounds like you will really make a difference in the community through your event.

If you do end up getting coverage in your local news, please let us know so that we can include you in the "members in the news" section of our member newsletter, Different Strokes. We also like pictures and stories about your massage week event for our article in Different Strokes. Please send those to differentstrokes@abmp.com after your event!

Good luck with your event, we are excited to hear about how it turns out! Thank you again for spreading the message about the benefits of massage and working to advance the profession in your community!

This will be the first year I participate. We are going big too. Starting as soon as we get a list from the organization, we are having a goods and services drive for our local battered women's and children"s center. We will also donate $1 to the shelter for each client who brings us an item for the drive. When we deliver the goods, we will bring our massage chairs and give massages to the volunteers who run the center. We will also give massage vouchers for the victims/clients of the organization, should they want a private massage. They have some teenage mothers, so I am hoping they allow me to teach and infant massage class to teach appropriate, loving touch and hopefully break the cycle of abuse.

Also, all of our clients that week will be treated to a lovely hand/foot add on with their service, free of charge. It will include washing with lovely organic body wash and a shea butter massage.

To promote the week, we have set up advertizing through our local news station, WBOC, to do what they call Daily Deal. We have a 1 day sale of 50% off an hour massage. They promote the heck out of it and sell it, and they keep a portion as payment. It doesn't cost us anything up front - we just have to take a huge pay cut but we get the money in one lump sum. Its worth it. I've talked to other business owners who say they gained SO MANY new customers they had to hire additional staff. In addition to promoting our business through the Daily Deal, WBOC has agreed to show up and interview us when we are serving at the shelter and get our message across about how touch can change lives and what Everybody Deserves a Massage Week is about. (I MAY have told them that you would in turn put their report in the national spotlight. First time I ever saw a reporter drool. Lol. Hope you can put a blurb somewhere for me.)

So basically, Every Body in my area can get either a free massage, a free ad on service, or a huge discount for massage, and by bringing much needed supplies for abused women and children, make a huge difference in someone's life.

Hi Sarah, welcome to the group! Have you participated in EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week before?

Hi Rachel,

I have a feeling this will be your year to participate in EveryBody Deserves a Massage Week, especially with your family reunion being in August this year. Take a look at our website for some helpful tips and ideas to get you started. Maybe think about a local charity or cause that you feel strongly about and find a way to incorporate that into your promotion. I'm happy to suggest ideas for you, if you would like, otherwise maybe there is someone in this group that can help you come up with a good idea! Good luck and keep us posted on what you come up with! :)
