This is my inaugural forum discussion. My wife (50 something) is a runner who is having issues with what seems to be in the obturators. I know they are in a group called lateral rotators but I'm hoping for more detailed info if someone knows more about them. I have questions about possible compensations if the hip extension action is weak at the hamstrings and possible strains resulting from such. We're having limited success with the treatments we know and recently found some stretches that target them very well. Maybe you have had these issues or know someone who has. Insights would be appreciated.

If it really is the obturator, and not the piriformis or hamstrings..  You will want your wife on her stomach.  Place your hand just about the outside of her knee on the affected side.. Have her isometrically push against your hand(using five to ten percent of her strength) while you karate chop just above the trochanter where the tendon of the gluteus medius is... Karate chop  that area as firmly as you can without hurting or busing anyone for about ten seconds... relax, then repeat a couple more times... If it is the obturator that will down regulate that muscle and solve your problem... However, if its the piriformis or hamstrings you will have to release those muscles differently.

Thanks for the tip. We'll give it a shot.

I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions, but welcome to the forum! :)
