I've had several Swedish and deep-tissue massages over that past few months and am thinking of trying a new modality. Any suggestions?

I'm leaning towards some type of energy work, as I've never experienced that, or something really good for the low back.

Hi Jed!  I'd suggest CranioSacral Therapy (Upledger is the one I know anything about although there are other kinds).  It incorporates energy work and is also good for low back issues.  It's a bit tricky to navigate the website to find a practitioner but if you are interested I'll post instructions on how to do it.

I've been really interested in trying ashiatsu, so you should give that a shot and let me know ;-)

Thai Massage. Yoga style stretches with acupressure point release. Great for the low back if you have no contraindications.

Look up Breema massage...Try to find someone that does that... Its interesting.   There is a Breema website...Im sure they have a list of therapists.

Shiatsu if you want it more physical like stretching and finger pressure points, my personal favorite is Shiatsu. Acupressure is good for a light touch. Other energy modalities include Cranial, Reflexology, Reiki.. All of these can kick start your energy flow in the right direction. Energy work is like acupuncture without the needles, These modalities help balance the body, hit energy pathways and bring flow back to area's that are blocked. It's great that you are interested and exploring out side of regular massage, Good for you!!!! Enjoy the benefits my friend. Namaste

Regular massage to me is basic or most common Swedish or deep tissue. When I speak to most people they think of mainly those two, I like informing people of other modalities they maybe never heard of or are not educated about (example) Russian massage or candle massage, shiatsu. So Regular meaning most common oil and rubbing. with all the modalities out there today not everyone is informed. I enjoy talking about other options beside the common. Lots of peole come to me for massage and I ask if they ever tried this or that and they are cluless, so it's very exciting to interest them in exploring other techniques and modalities. I wrote a lot you'll have to excuse me I'm a real talker in person.

I would definitely recommend ashiatsu particularily for the low back.

Also consider lomi lomi.  That's my favorite type of bodywork to give and receive!
