Is it typical for an intern to pay for his/her own internship?

E.g. 40-hour internship at $100-$200 per day paid by the intern to the sponsoring practice.

Just wondering.

To get my Hawaii State Massage License( 30 years ago), I had to serve an apprenticeship for several weeks before being qualified to take the state license exam.  And I had to pay the business that apprenticed me.

Thanks Gordon. Appreciate the reply.

no, it's the other way around. practices pay interns for their work, or not pay them, but it is unusual to pay to work. this is different from an apprenticeship. semantics perhaps for some, but there is a crucial difference between the two.
