Hello there. My name is Rayburn Neal. I am a Licensed Massage Therapist. Finally received my license this year and hit the ground running with my passion. My main reason for creating this discussion because I am having a truly rough time with finding a place that fits when it comes to reality (LIFE!). My only choice being a fresh licensed MT was to go to Massage Envy and be a therapist there. I've been nothing but graceful the amount of clients that flowed into my room from day one. I'm at the point where I have a great group of clients where I see weekly and things are great. BUT... the problem I am having is I am busting my butt to make myself available at Massage Envy and literally getting barely a Third of the pay for the overall massage. Now, prior of me choosing to go work for Massage Envy I was aware of their business structure (pay, tier structures, etc.) Now personally, I don't agree with their structures at all. There's no benefits for full-time employees. You are sometimes pushed in a gray area of your scope of practice by pushing yourself to pressure the client to sign up for a membership. Now, currently I am in need of more stable money and looking for something better that I can at least sustain my passion for doing. I understand that Massage Therapy sometimes doesn't make living in this life easy when it comes to paying bills and such. I need a new car, I need to pay off medical bills, and with no benefits, im kind of stuck to not knowing what, where, and who to talk to about these issues. Most therapists there have been sucked into their tier structure that get paid a dollar or more than the others but are afraid of the consequences of leaving their ME clients. I don't want to be in that position. I would love to work for someone (even myself one day!) and work so I can afford better things in life. I want just enough so I can survive. I am not in this career for the money. Where are some places other than Ohio I should look at to live and possibly move to that I can be more successful with this career? Now, I am only able to pay some bills off and beg for extensions on medical bill payments. Thanks and hope to get some feedback!

You would probably make more money working in a Chiropractic clinic. Or perhaps a first class hotel or Spa. That would be the case in Ohio or anywhere.
I see. Thanks very much. I also work part time at a chiropractic office now. Don't have any clients yet but thinking about looking somewhere else. It's a shame at massage envy because I have amazing clients that love coming in to get massages from me.
