"Weighty Issues"

During discussions here, I've met a lot of people who seem to have added a few pounds here and there. Of course, this is an epidemic. We all, at one time or another, have some extra weight that suddenly appears out of nowhere! That darn dryer is shrinking clothes again! One too many glasses of wine or a pint over the limit. Extra slice of Chicago style pizza anyone? GUILTY! I lost 80 pounds through sheer will and determination. I love to cook, I love to eat, I love food and family dinners, BBQs... you get the picture. I want this group to talk about it. Share your frustrations, gain ideas from others (not lbs), get healthy recipes, new ideas for work outs, anything that is a "Weighty Issue" for you. Please help me. I continuously need the motivation and inspiration to stay healthy. I know there are others out there too.

I have another use for cucumbers, if you have puffy eyes in the morning when you wake up or anytime, just put a slice of cucumber on each of your eyes and rest for a few minutes. The puffiness will disappear like magic!

Always remember life is short enjoy it every day and
Thank GOD for each day !

Amazing Cucumber (This information was in The New York Times several weeks ago
as part of their "Spotlight on the Home" series that highlighted creative and
fanciful ways to solve common problems.)

1. Cucumbers contain most of the vitamins you need every day. Just one cucumber
contains Vitamin B1, Vitamin B2, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B5, Vitamin B6, Folic Acid,
Vitamin C, Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium and Zinc.

2. Feeling tired in the afternoon, put down the caffeinated soda and pick up a
cucumber. Cucumbers are a good source of B Vitamins and Carbohydrates that can
provide that quick pick-me-up that can last for hours.

3. Tired of your bathroom mirror fogging up after a shower? Try rubbing a
cucumber slice
along the mirror, it will eliminate the fog and provide a soothing, spa-like
fragrance.

4. Are grubs and slugs ruining your planting beds? Place a few slices in a small
pie tin and your garden will be free of pests all season long. The chemicals in
the cucumber react with the aluminum to give off a scent undetectable to humans
but drive garden pests crazy and make them flee the area.

5. Looking for a fast and easy way to remove cellulite before going out or to
the pool? Try rubbing a slice or two of cucumbers along your problem area for
a few minutes, the phytochemicals in the cucumber cause the collagen in your
skin to tighten, firming up the outer layer and reducing the visibility of
cellulite.

Works great on wrinkles too!!!

6. Want to avoid a hangover or terrible headache? Eat a few cucumber slices
before going to bed and wake up refreshed and headache free. Cucumbers contain
enough sugar, B vitamins and electrolytes to replenish essential nutrients the
body lost, keeping everything in equilibrium, avoiding both a hangover and
headache!!

7. Looking to fight off that afternoon or evening snacking binge? Cucumbers
have been used for centuries and often used by European trappers, traders and
explores for quick meals to thwart off starvation.

8. Have an important meeting or job interview and you realize that you don't
have enough time to polish your shoes? Rub a freshly cut cucumber over the
shoe, its chemicals will provide a quick and durable shine that not only looks
great but also repels water.

9. Out of WD 40 and need to fix a squeaky hinge? Take a cucumber slice and rub
it along the problematic hinge, and voila, the squeak is gone!

10. Stressed out and don't have time for massage, facial or visit to the spa?
Cut up an entire cucumber and place it in a boiling pot of water, the
chemicals and nutrients from the cucumber with react with the boiling water
and be released in the steam, creating a soothing, relaxing aroma that has
been shown to reduce stress in new mothers and college students during final
exams.

11. Just finish a business lunch and realize you don't have gum or mints? Take
a slice of cucumber and press it to the roof of your mouth with your tongue
for 30 seconds to eliminate bad breath, the phyto chemicals will kill the
bacteria in your mouth responsible for causing bad breath.

12. Looking for a 'green' way to clean your faucets, sinks or stainless steel?
Take a slice of cucumber and rub it on the surface you want to clean, not only
will it remove years of tarnish and bring back the shine, but is won't leave
streaks and won't harm you fingers or fingernails while you clean.

13. Using a pen and made a mistake? Take the outside of the cucumber and
slowly use it to erase the pen writing, also works great on crayons and
markers that the kids have used to decorate the wal

I have eaten a salad 3 nights in a row and yes it satisfied me and I did not have to snack late at night like I usually do. Also stopped the diet soda (which I love *sighs*) and replaced it with good old water. My next shopping list has not unhealthy foods on it and all the goodies in the house have been dispatched post haste. I don't eat breakfast but drink a protein shake with fruit every morning keeps me filled up until lunch. The hard part is finding a way to eat without distraction since I often eat in the car or at work. Hardly ever eat at home anymore.

When embarking on a natural weight loss program, these five diet tips are fundamental for achieving success.

1. Eat breakfast every day, even if not hungry.
The National Weight Control Registry, which tracks more than 5,000 people who have lost at least 30 pounds and kept the weight off for at least a year, shows that most people who experience natural weight loss make the time to fuel their body up every morning. Diet tips regarding breakfast are plentiful because this is something that works. Studies indicate that people who eat breakfast are less likely to overeat later in the day. Natural weight loss occurs as the body adjusts to more calories in the morning and fewer calories afterward; therefore, making time for breakfast is one diet tip that is fundamental to success.

2. Start with soup, salad or fruit.
These foods are essential for natural weight loss because they are filled with water and fiber. A study from Pennsylvania State University found that people who used two 10.5-ounce servings of broth-based soup each day for a year lost 50 percent more weight than those who consumed the same number of calories from healthy snacks. There is no end to the number of diet tips regarding the importance of fiber for natural weight loss. Rachel Brandeis, R.D., of Atlanta, Georgia, says eating 3 cups of green salad with fat-free dressing cut the number of calories people consumed at a meal by 12 percent.

3. Skip all soda.
This is one diet tip not to ignore when trying to achieve natural weight loss. Soda raises the risk of becoming overweight and contains zero nutrients. One can of

soda has nearly the same calories as a chocolate bar. Many diet tips also point out that diet soda is not a good option for natural weight loss, either. According to studies from the University of Texas, Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas, diet soda raises the risk of being overweight by as much as 37 percent.

4. Eat meals without distractions.
Some diet tips are good for the mind and for natural weight loss. By turning off the TV and ignoring phone calls and text messages while eating, the focus is only on the food and the way it is being eaten. By taking a moment to notice the flavors and textures of the food, it’s easier to change how much is consumed. When distracted, mindless consumption takes place, but when individuals seriously think about these diet tips and how eat, then their thoughts about food begin to change. When people change the way they eat, they change how much they eat—resulting in natural weight loss.

5. Keep unhealthy foods out of sight.
Keeping unhealthy foods out of sight will keep them out of mind as well. “Cravings are often fleeting, and if you have to leave the house to go get ice cream, you’ll be less likely to do it,” says Roberta Anding, R.D., of Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, Texas. By taking these diet tips seriously and eliminating unhealthy foods from the house, the foundation for natural weight loss is solid.
