massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

I know, I'm nosey. I was a travel writer.

For six years, I got to travel to Bed & Breakfasts and get massages, all for free, and write about it. So my roots are in traveling, meeting people and hearing their stories. Now I travel around and do The World Massage Festival & Massage Therapy Hall of Fame.

I found the adjustment to a single location massage establishment, inside a strip mall, very confining. So I started a way to stay "in the massage world and travel!" But that is another story!

What's your story? What did you do before massage? Tell us of your travels and what massage is like where you are, especially if you massage outside the U.S. We really like pictures, if possible.

If you get bored come see me at my page http://www.massageprofessionals.com/profile/MikeHinkle

Thanks and welcome to Massage Professionals!

That must have been a terrific job! Just goes to show that if you love what you do, you can incorporate it into a job.
Myself...........I was in advertising and a writer myself for a golf travel publication. Great job, but with the economy the way it was, decided to start my own small business which is going fairly well............Good topic! To all MP friends we are offering a SOLPOD special, please contact us at sales@solpods.com and mention this website to find out.

Take care all therapists
I agree and you have quite a background. Welcome and if we can help along the way.... just holler!!!
I agree. The move will be you temendously! Glad you are with us!
It was great to be a journalist and it has really come in handy with everything I do now. Keep making a difference!
I worked for a Sporting Goods Company for 15 years. I had a wonderful opportunity to work in various departments in my tenure. I started in International Operations doing import and export work. Then moved into the Distribution Center into the Traffic department coordinating the pick up of our product to all sorts of customers. From there I moved up to the Customer Service Department and worked with the Vice President of National Accounts. A lot of forecasting, various reporting and was the home office contact for the big box stores. Every department was unique and it was great being a part of each area.
While working there, I became a caregiver for my mother for the last few months of her life. What a dramatic change of events. When I would see her in the hospital, I would take music, essential oils, and I just would sit with her and try to make her as comfortable as possible. I felt a deep connection to what I was doing. I was always given the most encouraging compliments from the doctors and staff. One day her doctor told me that I really had a special touch with my mother and that I should consider doing massage therapy. At the time, I thought he was crazy.
It wasn't until a year after my mother passed, that I had a calling to the profession. I wanted to do something special in my life. So I made the decision to go to school, graduate, get Nationally Certified, and become the best I could in my profession. That was 2004. A turning point in my life.
Over the course of six years, I can say that i have successfully achieved all of those goals. I have obtained several certifications in Hospice & Palliative care along with a host of other modalities, and i have not stopped yet. I volunteer at a local hospice, and treat both patients and caregivers and their families. And my real job is working at a resort spa in Myrtle Beach. I am hoping someday to teach and mentor other people that are interested and involved in this profession. My career is great. And it gets better every day. Thanks for asking.
Hi Christy,

Do you do your own music for background? I'm with you on that needle thing. It is very rewarding and we are glad you are with us! Join lots of the groups here and jump in all those conversations. This site can be a fantastic tool if you use it. So many just want to pop in and say hi/bye. They are missing this websites potential. Good luck and if you need help.... just holler!!!!
Hi Mary Ann,

So glad you got into this profession. Myrtle Beach was my old stomping grounds back in the 70's.

If you want to learn the beginnings of teaching, come to the Festival this year. We are starting the process for dozens of therapists that want to get into teaching. With your organizational skills, I think you would make you more successful. Take care and welcome!
Hey Mike, things sure have changed since then! As far as coming to the festival, sounds like a great idea, keep me in the loop. I am game.
Thanks, Mike, for the welcome. I do plan on stopping by for more than just "hi" and "bye." Hard to get online sometimes, but I am a sponge, looking to soak up information, so I will be here!! I am searching out whether to specialize and truly help people!! MLD, Myofacial, Arthrossage, Fibro, etc. That is why I seached out this site!! I am excited to be here.
Well there's over 6,500 of us so someone is bound to be able to help! Do what you want to do... not what "sounds good!"
I'll keep you in the loop!!! It's getting bigger every year too!!!! lol
