massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

I'm interested in hearing thoughts on the PA massage law. Were any of you active in the process (I attended some of the meetings back in "04)?

Hi Sue,
I think there are definite pros and cons to PA licensure, so I guess I'm sort of ambivalent about it. I'll wait and see if it truly benefits our profession or if it becomes just more moldy legislation (i.e., a law that is unenforced and unpoliced) that merely costs me money. I'd like to think that it will weed out practitioners who are inadequately educated in the field or unethical in practice and sex practitioners hiding under the banner of massage therapy. I'd like to think that it will give therapists the professional veneer necessary to be widely respected by other health care practitioners. Only time will tell. I hope it doesn't become a restrictive corset that we can't escape. One of the things I've valued about practicing massage is the ability to learn and practice a wide variety of modalities and techniques.
