Has anyone ever created massage room "build-outs" from a rather large, empty space? Any advice on how much each build-out costs per room? (I know this is a MAJOR guesstimate!)

Hi Alyson, we hired a local company in the Dallas area to do our building of 3,000 square feet. Total 15 or so rooms but lots of open space as well. The project cost us 20k - mostly dry wall and labor. This does not include carpet, paint and fixtures/lights etc. Does that help at all?

Alyson,

It depends on where you are located, as well as how desirable the part of town is, the dimensions of the space, and the demand for work. When I built my space, I got estimates from 3 different contractors who all had very good references. Getting an estimate is free. You should also ask for a timeline to discern how long it would take to finish the project, and anticipate that most projects take much longer and cost more than you may initially think. Make sure to work with someone who gives you a break down of what exactly the costs are and receipts for everything. Anticipate that you may need to pay someone half the cash up front, and half upon completion. I negotiated 3 payments, which helped ease the burden and incentivize our builders to finish in a timely manner.
