Thinking about starting a Massage Therapy program in the fall?

Hello I am thinking about taking a program for Massage Therapy the program is for a year. I'm just worried that I may not make decent money. I know a lot of people start off at spas like Massage Envy etc. Which I have no issue with doing so but I know eventually most end up starting their own practice.  Also I know a lot of Massage Therapist end up feeling burned out or injured after a couple of years.

Do most Massage Spas pay minimum wage for sit time when you don't have a client? Is it difficult to get hired at a high end spa? What cities are best for Massage Therapist to work?

Yes I did attend college for Graphic Design but decided it wasn't something that I wanted to do for a career. I do like to travel and wouldn't have a problem relocating at all in fact I'm hoping that I will eventually. Currently I work as a customer service representative as I do like helping others. Dental Assisting is something else I have thought about. But honestly I believe I would enjoy Massage Therapy more. And from reading it seems that most Dental Offices want people who have at least 1 to 2 years of experience before they hire you. Which means I would basically have a hard time getting a job after graduating. The Massage Therapy School does offer job placement which is a plus. I did talk with a Massage Therapist that works at Massage Green Spa. She stated that she does get paid for sit time and $17 dollars per massage so I suppose it depends on the spa.

I could also go back to school for Physical Therapy Assistant while working as a Massage Therapist. They seem to make good money and that also involves helping others.

Melissa, being a PTA and a massage therapist would be really useful!  We have a PT and a PTA in town that both do Visceral Manipulation and CranioSacral Therapy, and they really do good work for people.  We share clients back and forth and have a terrific working relationship.  Everyone benefits!
