I am looking to start selling products on the shelf.  To those of you who do this, what is the most popular and what stays on the shelf longer? Is there a brand that you have found sells well?

Rebecca Jones wrote a great article with some retail tips in Massage & Bodywork magazine all the way back in 2009--check it out here!

Hi Janae,

Great idea to increase revenue! I'd recommend that you keep your client base in mind when you are selecting your products. I see that you practice pre-natal massage, you may want to keep some products that you can recommend to your pre-natal clients that you know is safe for them to use. You may also want to carry some pain relief products like Sombra or Biofreeze to compliment the deep/myofascial work that you do and for you to recommend to those clients. Also, if you use a certain oil/lotion/fragrance in the majority of those sessions you could look into retailing that so you can recommend it to clients for use between sessions. Tea is always a great product to recommend to clients. Another fun idea would be trying to find a local bath & body products manufacturer and carry select items from their line. it might be nice to have a partnership with a local company for cross promotion on both websites/social media, etc. And that adds another selling point for clients "this product is from a local company"...

Good luck finding the best products for your clients, let us know what you end up going with!

I use organic cherry stone pillows during the massage and retail them too. This is definitely my most popular item for retail. But if you don't use it during the massage people won't ask about it.

As Hannah said carrying a product like Sombra, Biofreeze, or Tiger Balm goes a long way.  I think it's important to know any product you want to sell.  People want to know what you think and why you would recommend it.

Best of Luck!

Thank you for your feed back.  I was looking into the organic cherry stone pillows.  is there a company you would recommend?  I am noticing they are quite pricy.  Do you have any issues with people not wanting to pay a lot for them?
