massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

Hi all,

I recently attended an interview of the new spa opening in town and at one point, one of the interviewers took his cell phone and told me he want to snap a picture of me to "reference" of who is who with their names. It strikes me that this is unusually and I know we are currently in a high tech era, but I'm still feel there is something "strange" about it.

Also recently I viewed of ads for massage therapist position online and there are fews that asked to submitted the resume with a HEADSHOT and I found this is "unusual". It's OK if they are looking specific Female/Male therapist but should indicated in the headline. Why photo? We are not actors... It just didn't feel right to me. By the way, I have been in the profession for ten years and it never occur back then.  Anyone have any takes on these? Thanks

Aloha Calvin. It did happen to me also and I don't see anything too weird about it. When you meet someone, you may have some thoughts about his friendliness or charm or charisma, things that can come back to you when you see their picture. The gender and technique of an MT are not the only factors for hiring in my opinion. We all know that a picture worth a thousand words after all :)

Hi Calvin,

At first I think it would be a little weird, but then giving it a second though, if you look at any MT's website you will see a picture of what they look like. I would think of it like that. Like Ilan said...a thousand words!!!

Thanks Ilan and Marcus for your inputs. Sure is that picture worth a thousand words but how they put in words is another thing. I have met some "nice" people through their photos, but what's a disappointment when finally meet them with their unfriendly demeanors and attitudes...
