Hi Nancy,
The Reiki class was in person. We did not practice energy wands however, we did send out distant Reiki. I will look for a local Reiki group and practice, practice, practice. Cheers.

I don't think it matters if you take all the levels at once or one at a time. It is like any other type of education. You need to practice what you have learned.
I took a period of 2 years to fully appreciate Reiki and the subtle ways it affects my life and others. I took Reiki 1 & 2 first in 2006. I began reading everything I could about Reiki (some good info, some not so good) I decided I needed more hands on work so joined a Reiki circle that met once a month. I did a re-take for Reiki 1 & 2 class from that teacher then 3 & 4, 8 months later. I am so glad I took her classes. I learned much more about hand positions, aura, chakras etc. The group comes from all walks of life and offer knowledge of other modalities such as shamanism and Healing Touch, Karuna Ki etc. I can't imagine taking it all at once because although the energy flows freely without effort, you still need to know how to prepare yourself, how to give a full treatment, how to disconnect from them and also take care of yourself.

You don't always have to use the full treatment. It can be as little as a couple of minutes to give someone Reiki. Learning when to use hands on or hands off is essential.

Give yourself some credit for taking the class and now asking questions. that is the first step. Find some books that will guide you and then seek out some Reiki people to do hands on work. It will bring it all together for you.

Curious about your class...Was it an online class or in person.
Did you practice sending distant Reiki, create energy balls or use energy wands to send energy to each other? All of these things are possible as long as the intent is there. It is fun and enlightening.

thank you everyone for your comments!!! Very helpful. I have always been told that I have a magic gift just with a touch to someone, I'm thinking I have been trying to hard.:) No Gerry I don't recall many hand positions and i took one class that covered all the atunements. Is there such a class?

You can not make Reiki happen. It is something that is allowed to happen.

It is natural when you first start practicing Reiki to wonder if you are doing it right, or if you are "good enough".

Reiki is a very simple process that most try to complicate and make difficult. Most are taught that such things like energy healing really don't exist when it is really a natural part of living that has always been a part of us.

Trying to do Reiki is much like trying to still the mind and not think. The harder we try to do it, the more we mess the process up. Instead, trust the process. Allow the mind to be still, open yourself and allow the energy to flow. It is in that space that you will begin to witness and participate in miracles.

Marla, you said you took Reiki classes. Did you do more than one level at a time? Where you taught basic hand positions?

Peace

I recently visited a friend who had back surgery. She was in so much pain she was near tears. I offered to do Reiki to help her and to show her how to help herself.
She could not lie down at that time so I stood to one side and did Reiki hand positions to show her first "hands off" the body then asked questions on how she felt. Next I did "hands on" the upper half of her body. she was telling me all sorts of things she felt. Then I put one hand behind her body and one above on the front and after a moment I asked her what did she feel. She said "I don't feel anything". So I asked her if there was pain. She looked at me in amazement and said, I don't have pain at all. It was gone.

It is wonderful to be able to do Reiki in any position or at any place or time. No tools needed, completely portable and the benefits are amazing.

Let yourself be guided by the energy and you will find that it works without effort or tools. I use anything I can to help me work on someone. Crystals, tuning forks, singing bowls, healing wands, aromatherapy, etc.

Intent and intuition are the key factors. I agree there is no wrong way to do it. My daughter fell the other day and was in so much pain I insisted that I do reiki on her.

Trying to avoid falling on her knee that already has a previous injury she twisted her back, neck and hip. She did not want to go to the doctor so I spent about an hour working on the areas that were in pain. I also found several areas she didn't know were in trouble until I touched them. She told me how each area felt as I worked on them and I adjusted my treatment for each place with intent individualized for each area of pain. It worked very well. the next day she said she felt very little pain on the inside of her leg, but all other areas had no pain and she is on her feet all day at work. I sent intent to stop the pain, eliminate inflammation and have no long lasting effects from the fall. I used a pain drain technique at her neck to relieve that area and she felt as though a cold compress was there as soon as I took my hand away.

The longer you do Reiki, the more techniques you will learn and discover. I truly hope you will find a group of people you feel comfortable with and get the experience.

Marla,

Reiki is all about intention and intuition, there is no right or wrong way to do it. The key is to practice hands on over and over again on yourself and others who are willing to give you feedback. I am lucky in that I touch a lot of bodies, over a thousand a year perhaps so I get a lot of practice. The Reiki will flow naturally, you may have some doubts at first but when you start putting people to sleep in 5 minutes you will have no more doubts! :) Be sure to do it on yourself a lot especially at the beginning. After a while you will obtain your own style of doing Reiki, remember you can't do it wrong!!!

Tonight I am having a little holiday get together with my Reiki group. We will be having a potluck feast and then work on each other after. I am hoping the Reiki will control the amount of calories in the food so we do not gain any weight LOL!

I believe that when first attuned to Reiki most people feel inadequate. Just go with the flow. Practice on yourself and family members and friends. Ask for feedback whenever you do practice. It is a valuable tool so you can tell what they are feeling. It also depends on whether hands off or hand on approach is used. I find that hands off about 4 inches above the patient helps to feel the energy field and once you recognize the difference between one area and another you will become more confident and not feel like you need to take classes over again. I recommend joining a Reiki circle/share so that you gain the experience working with different people.

Each of us are different in the amount of energy we give off or at least that is my experience. Keep a journal of your energy work. It is a valuable resource. Not only do you feel certain things but your patient does too and if you write both sides of the treatment you can refer back to it later.

Learning about the chakras will also help you to do more with Reiki. I use a combination of several types of energy healing in my treatments. So keep learning about energy work and you will find your niche`.

Hi Mike and Marla...Reiki can easily be incorporated into a massage or stand alone as a therapy session. Massage therapist initially may not realize it, but you are doing energywork during the massage. Once you realize that your clients are releasing energy, often continuously, throughout the massage, you will be able to provider a better massage. Our energy systems store all that has happened to us. Our emotions, thoughts, beliefs, and memories are held in our bodies. Massage allows what the client no longer needs to hold on to, to come up to be released. If you get fatigued or out of sorts during a massage, then you are probably processing for your client. When you become aware of this and use energywork in conjunction with your massage, you will not use your personal life force energy and should not become fatigued.
With more experience using Reiki, you will feel more comfortable with it. You can allow this life force energy to go where ever it is needed by setting your intention for the highest good of all concerned. Using Reiki when starting a session by starting at the clients head will help to relax them during the session. You could also end the session using Reiki.
I hope that this information is helpful. For more articles about energy work, please visit my website. www.SynergisticCenter.com
