Hi Carrie, If only one person attends a charity event than that is a success. One life has been touched by reaching out to them. Change your mind set. These events are about giving to our community not what we will receive back. The success coming in our willingness to give back expecting nothing in return. When you  reach that mind set you have succeeded.

Tuesday June 26, is a big day in Pensacola, FL. ABMP, AMTA, FSMTA, and MTAA all get together and do free chair massage for our Veterans at the local VA clinic the last Tuesday of every month. We already began talking about it yesterday through exchanging telephone calls and reaching out to each other. I am so pumped up and excited about giving back on Tuesday I cannot wait. This has been going on in Pensacola, FL for the last 3 years. This is the only city I know of in America where all of the Associations and Organizations  come together to give back together in a  community. We have the best time just giving back. That is what it is all about Carrie. It is Priceless.

Does anyone else have advice for Carrie's massage week event? She is open to suggestions and is hoping to hear from you!

Carrie - Have you looked at ABMP.com yet to get ideas from the marketing center? My recommendation to you would be to plan your event around a cause that speaks to you. If you haven't seen success in the past from attending a charity event, there are plenty of other ways for you to get involved but from the comfort of your massage room. You could donate your tips that week to a charity that you support, you could ask clients to bring canned food to their massage and offer a discount for that week only to those that bring food for you to donate, you could donate a gift certificate for a 1 hr massage to a charity auction...and so on! This way, you can do good for the community without ever leaving your massage room.

Whatever you decide, make sure to let clients know so that they can plan accordingly and help support you. Did you check out the May/June Massage & Bodywork magazine about sharing your values with your clients? http://massagebodywork.idigitaledition.com/issues/24/52

Your clients will appreciate your enthusiasm for whatever cause you support and you should let them know how you support that cause, they will likely appreciate your dedication to the community and spread the word about you. Good Luck and keep us posted on what your plans are for massage week!

More specifically, ideas that others have used successfully to grow their business while at the same time helping out with the community.  I've tried some charity events in the past that were not very well attended, so I'm a bit gun shy here :)

I would like to, but I'm fresh out of ideas at the moment.  I was hoping to join this forum and get some ideas that I can use in this area.

This will be my first year participating in EveryBody Deserves event. My plan is to get a few therapist together and offer free chair massages at the local firehouse. I remember being told in school, that we'll graduate with a special gift and should use that gift and give back to our community.
