After 20 years of saying massage therapists shouldn't have to take more than 100 hours of training I am starting to think from all I am seeing and reading online that it should now be a 3-4 year program like in Canada. With more younger massage therapists entering into the field I think that they need more training than just 6 months to a year of massage school.
It just seems that the franchises are putting such a demand on the massage schools for people who will accept low rates of… Continue

Reposting today's blog from Massage Magazine:
One week from today, I’ll be turning 50. To me it sounds much more impressive when I say “half a century,” instead of “hitting the big five-OH!.”
I think when most people hit one of those numbers with a zero on the end, they pause and reflect, and I’m no exception. In the previous decade, I married the love of my life, went back to college and attended massage school, and switched careers. In this one, I’ve opened a new… Continue

I am writing from the peaceful setting of the Pura Vida retreat in Costa Rica... While my wife is enjoying a week-long belly-dancing retreat I am enjoying a week-long... retreat. :)
As a yoga center with a spa focused upon authentic healing I am both blissed out and also actively engaged in taking notes as we prepare to start construction in Nepal. Some wonderful lessons and ideas to take from this place...
One important idea is that Himalayan… Continue

As the owner of The Pampered Spirit Mobile Massage & Spa Company over the past four years I have seen an increase in this field of business. I have been practicing massage for 12 years now and nothing gives me greater pleasure then to walk into someones home, office or hotel suite give a great massage or spa treatment and be asked not to leave! ( a far cry from teaching high school students, they couldn't wait for the bell) I have seen the ins & outs of the business and feel confident I… Continue

Lots of massage therapists I know talk about the need for getting new clients into their business. They feel that they just aren't seeing enough new faces in their doors or bodies on their tables. Perhaps the advertising and marketing vehicles they are using to attract new business aren't very effective. Or maybe the business' current clients aren't sending enough referrals their way. But while both of these situations are quite likely and deserve some exploration, I think it is really vital to… Continue

Hi all.....I am trying to start a mobile massage business, but was wondering if it's ok (or legal) to target/advertise "only females and couples". I am sort of skeptical about going into homes of people I don't know, and I thought this would at least give me a little comfort. Please let me know your thoughts.

I am considering opening a business w/ a fellow colleague. We have a bit of a conflict. We would have to sign a year lease...but she has already told me she will not be here for the whole year...more like 10 months. I don't know what to do...should I just get a space myself?

Can Massage Spread Cancer?
No, cancer will not spread in the circulatory or lymphatic systems due to massage. Many Doctors encourage their patients to have physical exercise which affects the circulatory and lymphatic systems and massage is less demanding on the body than physical exercise.
Can Massage Benefit People who are Living with Cancer?
Yes, massage cannot cure cancer, but it can definitely help! It can ease tension and stress, as well as improve the quality… Continue

We've all heard, seen and most importantly felt an energy drain from working with certain clients. The drain can wipe us out for hours and sometimes days.We often attribute it to some shortcomming of our own or some issue our client has. But what if it's intentional. I mean Really Intentional. I'm not talking about the creepy ones...The ones that make us bristle long before they get to our table. I mean the subtle ones. Sometimes they're men sometimes they're women. They come in looking and… Continue

Hi I have a new client who has a 13 year old son with Tourettes Syndrome. He has some fairly obvious tics and jerks especialy when he gets nervous or upset about something. With the teen years just ahead of him, she expects things to get worse before they get better. She notes that he seems to respond well to "homemade massage". When he appears to be nervous, or anxious, she gives him small massages and she can tell that he very obviously calms down. She is wondering if there is any research… Continue

Hi there. I noticed when I joined that there was no mention of zero balancing. I love doing this work - it is easy to learn and implement in ones massage practice, and it feels great. I am sponsoring a class in Asheville in December 10 -13th. Asheville is a fun place to visit, and this will be a great class. please let me know if you are interested. email@example.com
