Massage Therapy Research - The Diamond Polisher

There have recently been some threads on facebook and other forums that question whether massage therapy research is needed and one of the opinions that spring from them is along the following:

"I don't need research because I see results in my practice. My work, my intuition and the education I have received is enough".

I can relate to this to some extent. In fact, I could nearly say that at one stage it would be very easy for me to slip into this mode of thinking. Most of us work by ourselves. And if most of us are like me, I do see positive results
in my practice daily. Today I had a chiropractor call me to tell me she was
amazed at the change in one of her patients after I had worked on her and would
I mind working at her office one day a week. I'm sure most therapists have
similar types of stories. We see results all the time. We know that massage
therapy is effective. We do our best for our clients. What matters the

Good job and great thinking, Vlad!

This is way off topic, but I'll ask it anyway. I have short-timer's syndrome with the accompanying "I don't care" attitude right now!

Does anyone out there feel these energy vs. science discussions are beneficial? Do they help you gain new insight, or do they just repeat what you already know? Do you understand anyone another person's viewpoint more, or are you just more sure of your own? I know free expression benefits ourselves, but do discussions like this benefit the community as well?

I'll answer for myself, and I'll be honest. I just like reading articles that I agree with. I feel more validated when I connect with the one or two other people in the massage profession that believe as I do. I feel more polarized against the other side. I see dialogue shutting down here. I see communications on this and other topics dwindling down to nothing.

Perhaps it's just me being a bad person.

Have you thought about putting a book together yet? ;o) Thank you for touching on precisely why this work appeals to me. It's such a joy that we get to see and feel the awe & wonder of that brilliant engineering on a daily basis, accepting the huge responsibility that goes with that, and continue to study with those practitioners who are wiser and more educated in the "polishing process" than we might be. With massage research coming more into focus, the wise become even wiser and the rest of us, ever more educated. Sparkle on!
