Pueppi Texas replied to Jeremy Murray's discussion Competition among therapists question
"There really isn't much competition between therapists who are good at their craft.  The same can't be said for therapists who are not.You are not competing for clients with your classmates.  And, both responses above mine are…"

Gordon J. Wallis replied to Jeremy Murray's discussion Clincal vs relaxation, difference at end of each massage?
"Well a properly done relaxation massage is therapeutic, and a more clinical massage, if successful would end up relaxing.  It’s more the intent of the therapist adjusting to the needs of the client.  The client would feel good after…"

"Yes, Gordon is right, you are overthinking it. His advice is sound. Some things to keep in mind... In most areas of the country there is a shortage of therapists. Right out of the gate a small percentage of your of your classmates may not even take…"

Competition among therapists question

As a student massage therapist, I have been wondering about the competitiveness in the real world as a massage therapist. Is there a lot of competition for clients? My class is less than a week away from finishing school. However, I am finding myself having to ever so slightly distance myself from my fellow classmates as once we are out of school, we would technically be competing for clients. Am I over thinking this or what? See More

Pueppi Texas replied to Jeremy Murray's discussion Student massage therapist question....How much to charge for outcalls?
"For outcalls, I charge double what I charge in my office.  I'd suggest to *not* charge add-on fees for anything.  Most people don't want to be "nickled and dimed".I know that doesn't answer your question to the…"

Ajay replied to Jeremy Murray's discussion Student massage therapist question....How much to charge for outcalls?
"Charging extra for a heated table doesn't make sense, this would be a value added to your service. All the MT's I know don't charge more for deep tissue. Might have more to do with the local MT scene in your area. You might be able to…"

"Sorry, I should clarify....i meant AFTER becoming licenced. With Groupon, it seems like people don't want to pay a dollar a min and want discount massages. I regularly see Groupon ads for 35 or even 45 dollar 60min massages. How do we compete…"

Laurie replied to Jeremy Murray's discussion Student massage therapist question....How much to charge for outcalls?
"Depending on where you live, most students cannot get a business license, so charging for outcall massage services may not be allowed by local/state ordinance.  Also, your student insurance policy may not cover you as an unlicensed therapist…"

Student massage therapist question....How much to charge for outcalls?

I am a massage therapy student with a question on how much to charge for outcall massage sessions. I was thinking 70 for Swedish and 80 for deep tissue massage 1 hour massages. My massage table heats up, so should I add a price with that feature? Any suggestions? Thanks!See More

"In my opinion, a bad idea.  Every place I’ve worked.  It’s not free exactly.   But people trade massages.  People need money."

Pueppi Texas replied to Jeremy Murray's discussion Received ripped massage table.
"You really should return it.  This table will likely be with you for another 10 years if you take good care of it.  You don't want to have any of the table integrity compromised if it is not necessary."

Gordon J. Wallis replied to Jeremy Murray's discussion Received ripped massage table.
"I’d send that picture off to the supplier and the manufacturer of the table.  See what they say.  That’s not right.  You should be compensated for, or get a new table.  Let us know what they say.  "
