Hi guys,

So I have very recently decided to go into massage therapy because I know I want to help people for a career no doubt, and I'd love to make people feel better! I am a laid back kind of person so I think it'd be a good fit.

Anyways, I was wondering what you guys did for work during your time at massage school? Tuition ain't cheap! I don't know if I will be hired as a front desk associate at massage envy since im not yknow, perky or outgoing. Does it matter what kind of job? Customer service based I'd assume...am I overthinking things? probably! I would LOVE to work at massage envy in the east bay is why im so set on this front desk job.

My final question is random but is it okay for CMTs to be tattooed? i know this is a shallow question but i like to express myself.

Thanks, ya'll

:)

Well said, thank you! I don't really like the idea of working solo, it seems like a lot of pressure. Much respect for that.

I worked for other business owners part-time as a chiropractor, and additionally worked in my own private practice (also as a chirorpactor) most evenings, in an office space I was renting.

It doesn't particularly matter what kind of job, if you need to make money to survive, pay the bills and eat while in school, working your way to a better life.  However, I would not suggest working in a questionable profession (such as being a stripper or the like), as it may cause some issues with others (including the massage board) with regard to integrity, since you will be moving into a healthcare related profession.  That said, I did go to chiropractic college with a lady who worked her way through school while working in various clubs.  I have no idea if she ever graduated or if she ran a successful practice later on.

I know plenty of massage therapists who have ink.  You'll just have to find the right clientele (or employer) also comfortable with your choices of expression, depending on where you end up.  Acceptance may also differ depending on what part of the country you end up in and what style of tattoos (the pictures) you have.  You may not want devil faces and skulls in obvious spots.  For example: I'd say some of the items on someone like Megan Massacre might not be appropriate for a massage practice.  Then again, your clientele may love it.
