massage and bodywork professionals

a community of practitioners

I work with some clients in their 80's. I've been in a lot of situations of needing to help clients get on and off the table, get their clothes back on, getting them on and off the table to use the bathroom. I help as much as I can but would really like some training so I feel more confident. It also throws the whole draping/modesty issue out the window. I'm not only helping people, they are naked! I do my best with a smile, but I would like to be able to do more. Maybe a CNA course?

Yes, thats a large part of what the Certified Nursing Aids do.

I occasionally   have to help a client like that...But its rare...Maybe once a year type of thing.. Do you have a high percentage  of clientele with those needs?

Hi Gael - Perhaps you could also look into getting continuing education credits while you are learning to feel more comfortable with elderly clients. You should look into Day Break Geriatric Massage Institute (www.daybreak-massage.com)

They will likely have an upcoming class close to you. Hope this helps, good luck with finding the right education for your practice!

Yes, very large retired population where I am.
