Using this language, " Esalen-Inspired" is allowed. Only those who have completed the training and have received a certificate from Esalen or EMBA may use the name, "EsalenR Massage". I'm glad you will be taking further classes with Robin in N.C. She's a wonderful person and skilled teacher and bodyworker. All the best to you in your practice and continuing education.

Hiedi,
I have a new DVD just out, which focuses on supine and side lying massage.
The client has had a double radical mastectomy with reconstruction, and I focus on breath, freeing the breasts, and opening the heart...with side lying as the primary way of touching the back of the body. Essential Touch, Volume II.
hope this helps. not yet available on line; just let me know.

I have the Esalen video, and have referred back to it often over the years. Every time I do, I take away something new from it. It's a great way to get "unstuck" when you start to feel bored. I am always struck by the connection between giver and receiver and I absolutely LOVE the stretches. I would really like to take the seminars at some point. Thanks, Robin, for starting this group. I'll keep following.

Hello Gail--- I am from Omaha, NE and I would love to come and teach Esalen Massage there. I am good friends with Sandy Aquilla and I will talk with her about teaching at her center. If you have any other ideas, let me know. Thanks for your interest in Esalen massage! Robin Fann

Hello everyone. Any chance that a class for training in Esalen will be in Omaha, NE or somewhere in Iowa? I would love to take one as well.

Esalen® massage is an eclectic form that is grounded in Swedish massage but freely borrows from other forms, e.g., Trigger Point, Thai, Energy, etc. It is difficult to describe but wonderful to experience. Classes consist of lectures, readings, discussions, a video, demonstrations, and hands-on practice. This type of massage treats the mind and body as a whole and attempts to bring about a sense of well-being through inducing a deep state of consciousness. The massage is done in a reverent manner and consists, in part, of long, flowing, rhythmic strokes combined with specific detail work, as well as elegant stretches and rotations. Emphasis for the therapist is on developing intuition when working with the client rather than performing a set routine. While each therapist develops his/her own set of strokes, stretches, and rotations, these tools are never used in the same way twice.
