A Place To Relax!!

I hope you will meet new friends and find lost ones through this group. I know, "Life gets in the way," it is busy out there but you should have a place to talk with your peers. I hope you chose this haven for your sanctuary. I honor all of you that have reached this plateau.

Thanks Kevin. I will add her to our list. Are you trying to recommend her for the Hall of Fame? Based on what you have said so far, she may be a great person to add there as well. I just don't want all these efforts by so many being lost to time.

I would like to recognize Dr Myk Hungerford as a pioneer of massage. I first meet her 30 years ago when she taught sports massage to the staff at Canyon Ranch in Arizona and she was still teaching the year she passed away in 2008. She paved the way for many of us in sports massage. You can still benefit from her work through her books. Beyond Sports Medicine is one to look for.

I became a Licensed Massage Practitioner in the State of Washington in 1988 at age 40. I am now 62, and I've been practicing for 22 years. I haven't been active full-time all of those years, but I have always managed to keep my oar in. Right now, I'm averaging 7-10 massage hours a week, and I'm working on my Trager Certification process. God willing and the creek don't rise, I'll be a Trager Practitioner by February of 2011. I'm loving my work more today than I did yesterday. And I'm assuming that I'll still be practicing when I'm in my 90's. The main difference I've seen through the years is the increase in insurance coverage. I see this as a mixed blessing, and I'd be happy to regale anyone who chooses to listen. This is a favorite soapbox of mine, but I'm not going to step up on it right now.

I will celebrate my 20 year anniversary as a massage therapist this summer and I owe a big debt of thanks to my wonderful wife, Susan Salvo, for sharing this incredible profession with me. We will also celebrate our 20 year wedding anniversary this October. So.....20 wonderful years has a double meaning for me!
