I agree that cont ed is important but it can be expensive. I am lucky that I live close by to Chicago where there a lot of good CE workshops in the area so I do not have to travel far or stay overnight in hotels that cost money. I know it is tax deductible but you still have to come up with the money at the time of the workshop, plus you may have to take several days off from work which also costs you money. Then you have to pay for your license renewal. If CEs are not required anymore, therapists who don't want to spend the money or take the time to do it, won't. This will decrease the quality of the therapists in the state. If left to their own devises how many therapists would actually take the time to do it? Who knows? I think it should remain mandatory for that reason.

I agree with Terry! Each day I learn something different and that is a treasure. To actively seek knowledge on a topic of my choosing is a blessing.

I could care less about if con ed is mandatory or not..I chose to continue learning as that is how I can offer my clients the best options available

I think so at least until 2012 when the licensing law is repealed, then after that who knows? Anyone else have any thoughts on that?

Our teaching team is considering coming to Illinois to help therapists with CE's. After reading the trail of discussion, I'm wondering if MT's in Illiniois are you still going to be required to have CE's?

Rick,

Thanks for the info. I would certainly be interested in teaching someday, but I am liking what I do now so much I probably don't have the time to do it justice. I will check out the website though.

I'm heading to Springfield in a few hours to facilitate teacher training for a Massage Therapy Diploma Program starting at Lincoln Land Community College, Feb 1! It's very exciting. Unfortunately, I had a teacher bail and I'm looking for two instructors, Clinic Supervisor & Modalities, intro & advanced. If you know therapists in the Springfield area please circulate this information.

I am aware that people need jobs right now and the economy has hit the massage practice. Teaching is a great way to create a steady income stream!

Also, there are seats available for students who are interested in registering and the price is right! Check it out:

There's an info session onsite tomorrow, Tues, Jan 19, 6:30p. You'll see the info in the link above.

Thanks for your support!

=)
