I love amethysts too

No Frills ~ Right on! Me too. My amethysts were only for decoration, they're so pretty...but there are those who want to read much more into their alleged "power to amplify."

Marilyn,

I do not use crystals, turning forks, singing bowls or anything else that some people might construe as being woo-woo when doing Reiki, I just use my hands. I am not a woo-woo person myself so why would I even do that to anyone else? Nothing wrong with using them if it feels right to the practitioner, but to me all that feels right are my hands. I consider my Reiki business as just that, a business. It is on my business card, I set up appointments and charge for it just as I would do for any massage.

I have been to Reiki Masters who do use the woo-woo stuff and I find it entertaining and so unnecessary but that's ok. As I said it is not like me to use woo-woo stuff myself. I don't need it but some people do and that's fine too. I treat Reiki as an adjunct to my practice, not something separate. Some people love it, some refuse it. It really all depends on the individual.

I am sure moving the crystals did shift your energetic focus since your intention was to use Reiki with a more medical approach. That's how I see it too, I guess I am what some may call a no-frills Reiki Master LOL

Short attention span...uh yes, especially me! I love that the public is being introduced to it, don't get me wrong ~ but so many times the jargon involves way too much woo-woo and people just roll their eyes and tune out. It's practically impossible to objectify such a subjective undertaking but there is always somebody in the media who is willing to try!

On another topic (but related) I found that when I removed my amethyst collection out of my massage room, and kept my "Reiki Master" reference on my business card only, people actually started asking for it and about it more. I removed (what some see) as a reference to woo-woo (crystals) and made a stonger statement that leans toward a more medical approach to massage, which forms the bulk of what I do anyhow. (Now I'm laughing to myself, having spent too much time on the EB site, I'm trying to break down the variables!) Maybe it's just coincidence, and there was absolutely a shift.

He actually has Pamela Miles on the show who has a website and has written a book about Reiki. She was explaining Reiki while she was demonstrating it on one of the member of the audience. The audience member said she felt great afterwards, of course she could just be saying that but it got the point across. I didn't see it as exploiting the technique but as you well know TV has to be fast paced and only a short amount of time is devoted to each subject on the show. You know we all have short attention spans, right? ;)

I heard mention of it but didn't get to actually see it (Dr. Oz) because I had a session myself -- I do hope it was handled in a professional way and not shown as a parlor game, which seems more the "norm" in the media. Exactly how does one "demonstrate" the healing power of Reiki on TV, anyway? I admire Dr. Oz and would hate to think he exploited this technique on his show!

Did anyone catch the Dr Oz show this week? He had on a Reiki Master to demonstrate the healing power of Reiki and he highly recommended that everyone try it. I wasn't aware of this fact but his wife is a Reiki Master and he uses them in the OR when he does heart surgery. Very cool!

I am a Reiki Master who attunes people to Reiki. I was taught that you should not take all the attunements at the same time, there should be a waiting period of at least 21 days between each attunement. This is because the energy will circulate in the chakra system 3 days in each chakra starting in the root chakra up to the crown, 3 times 7 chakras is 21 days. This cleansing process is useful for getting rid of your own energy blocks. It is better in my opinion to clear your own blocks first before working on others. The self healing hand positions should be used ever day to clear oneself. I am surprised that you did not learn many hand positions as there are many of them used in a complete Reiki session, Marla, both on oneself and on others.

My advice is to get some books on Reiki and read up on it more. All Masters teach a different way but that is not the same way I teach it. Then see if you can find a group of people to practice on. I do a Reiki share once a month nearby my house. We charge a modest fee of $5 but everyone get a turn on the table. We do about 15 minutes on everyone. If anyone needs a longer treatment they can come and see me personally. I charge a dollar a minute and most sessions last 60 to 90 minutes long. Best of luck with it!
