I'm still a student-- first quarter ,actually. I'd love to take the membership now. Unfortunately, I can hardly afford a sub sandwich right now. But feel free to send me details to my email. Don't know whether as moderator you have access to my private address, so I'll give it here. It's gary w addis without the spaces at gmail.com

Hi Gary,

Yes, the free website is a benefit of ABMP membership. Are you a massage student, or a professional? The membership is very reasonably priced - especially at the student level. If it is something you are interested in chatting about more, lets do so in a private message. Happy Thanksgiving!!!

Erin, you mentioned the free website at abmp.com. But, isn't the free webpage only for abmp members? I will join the organization, but not for many, many months.

Hi Erin! It really does make the difference to learn from somone you admire and trust. I am very excited with the energy work..I have dealt with some aspects of energy being wiccan. I am just excited to be able to truly help others

Welcome Gary! Thanks for posting. In addition to Gloria's great direction, you will find abundant articles on this topinc online at abmp.com. You'll need to log in to the members section, then simply do a keyword search (try both 'Trigger Point' and 'Accupressure') - make sure you select to search our article database rather than the website. Here is one that might help: http://www.abmp.com/members/articles/?article_id=717

Welcome Shawna! So glad you're working under someone you respect and appreciate - doesn't it make all the difference?! I get so excited for dual MT/Energy workers. Whle energy work is as old as time, it really seems to be reaching the masses right now. Strike while the iron is hot!

Hi Gary
I will try to answer some of your questions to the best of my ability.

Trigger points are not the same as acupressure technique. A Trigger point is areas of hyperactivity/stimulus in the tissue that create a painful trigger response in the muscle or connection tissue and can refer to other regions. Neuromuscular therapy is one technique that helps relieve a trigger point.

Acupressure is a technique that is applied in regions, usually along meridians to open/balance energy.

Trigger point therapy applies sustained pressure to release endorphins to ease the pain cycle in the tissue.
So the points don't necessarily coincide.
As for reflexology - since it is a theory for thousands of years you will find differences in charts and information. Pressure is applied similar to acupressure on the reflex points that pertain to the organs (another system vs. meridians).

Do modalities overlap? Yes, I agree they do. I have seen many modalities, if not all, date back thousands of years with similar foundations and theories.

It does seem that we all call upon our ancestry and lineage to design and develop new styles, theories and techniques.

I hope that helps!
